Manly Dam – Upper Catchment – Tall Leek Orchid

This orchid is a first time sighting for me. My colleague Don Miles found this whilst running an excursion and we went down to shoot it after work. Manly Dam is a fantastic site and this was in its upper catchment area right near Warringah Aquatic Centre. This orchid was found in a hanging swamp and resemembled a grassy plant flower. (1ds, 17-40, f8, 1/400)

Tall leek orchids (Prasophyllum elatum) is Australia’s tallest orchid. It flowers in August. It was a flower stalk that can contain up to 60 flowers. (30d, 180mm, f13,1/125, fill external flash).

I have no actually found this species in another location and will post on that later.
