Victoria Falls to Leura

The final part of our day trip took us to Mt Victoria, Govetts Leap, and Leura.

We did a very quick walk at Mt Victoria, on the Victoria Falls walk. We found another flying duck orchid and enjoyed a decent lookout. The highlight of this area was finding a pair of Mountain Heath Dragons. We were looking at a small male and didn’t realise there was a larger female next to it. The female looked gravid. We took a couple of photos of both and didnt expect much as the conditions and light werent fantastic. Whilst I was lining up a shot of the female we realised a small jumping spider had crawled up its back and was sitting on its head. I took 3 shots as quick as possible and was lucky that the first one caught the spider looking towards the camera, the second two it had turned its head away. Within this couple of seconds the spider then jumped off the lizards head and was in turned pounced on and eaten. Whilst this all happened too fast for me to capture I did get this shot which Im quite happy with. (30d, 180mm, f7.1, 1/800, iso 400).

Our next stop was Govetts Leap. This is an amazing look out. Ive had better lighting there in the past. I find that with such a deep canyon and the notherly aspect its hard to shoot. The best weather is storms as it takes out the harsh lighting and gives an interesting sky. I will wait until I get a better picture to post of this look out but I will post one of a look out nearby. (1ds, 17-40, f7.1, 1/640)

The final stop was Leura. I had been recommended to go here for the food by a friend of mine and they weren’t wrong. There are great delis and bakeries. We had a fantastic coffee and homemade lemonade at a place called Fresh. I (based on my one time there) would recommend it.
