Valley of the Waters – Wentworth Falls

On the second day of the Elms weekend we did a shortish walk at Wentworth Falls. The walk was called “The Valley of the Waters”. Its named after the waterfalls it follows and takes you down some beautiful escarpments towards the bottom of the valley. The below photo gives you an idea of just how steep some of the path was. (1ds, 17-40, f8, 1/1250)

The further you got down the darker everything becomes. Blocked by the South facing wall of sandstone light barely makes it down to the dark and dense undergrowth at the bottom of the hill. This made it a little more complicated for me as my cameras are not as new as others and struggle with noise in low light (due to fact i didnt take a tripod down). Also the light was extremely contrasty. As you walk down the towards the bottom you come across parts of the creek that reflect the brilliant golden sandstone walls as this little one did. (1ds, 17-40, f4, 1/60, iso 800).

The walk back up was just as beautiful as the one down. This time the beauty lay in the cascading creeks rather than the extravagant views of the valley. Whilst I’m not thrilled by any of my waterfall shots and am looking forward to seeing a friends shots, I do like this one. Its not perfect but its the best I could do. (1ds, 17-40, f8, 1/5, rock as tripod)

And thus concludes “The Elms” trip…. til next year!
